"I say, dress to please yourself. Listen to your inner muse and take a chance. Wear something that says, 'Here I Am!' today." ~Iris Apfel
A couple weeks back I was packing for our move to Arizona and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. My hair was up in a messy top knot, my eyebrows were a hot mess and I looked at my reflection wondering where the girl I know had gone.
I used to dress in blazers and high heels every day. I felt like a boss and loved that part of my morning and how it made me feel. Didn't like the part of having a boss so when that ended and I actually became my own boss (7 years ago now), one of the first things that changed was the fact that I didn't have to get up and dress up to go anywhere.
At first it felt so freeing to wear whatever I wanted and do it from the comfort of my own home. I was my own boss so I decided what went.
Well, fast forward 7 years and let me tell you, wearing pjs and workout clothes everyday, you start to slowly lose touch with yourself. Your actions change. Suddenly, I realized I stopped setting my daily intentions with the limitless bracelets. Alot of big things were affected by this one decision to not dress up. Including how I felt about myself.
It's crazy how something so superficial can really reach inside and have the power to make you feel something on a deep intrinsic level.
Not good. Disconnected. A new version of yourself that feels kind of sad and lifeless.
Enter my reflection in the mirror.
I decided I was tired of feeling the same way and doing the same thing. Dressing in what was easy had lost its appeal and was no longer serving me and my best interest.
It was time to make a change.
