How To Create Momentum and Keep It Going
Do you have things you want to create or do in your life and haven't yet? Maybe you want to be healthier, make new friends, start a podcast or write a book. Whatever it may be, why you haven't done it yet?
The bottom line is you haven't created momentum. You haven't committed to the discipline of putting your energy in the direction of what you really want. But that can change.
Be clear on what you want & where you're going.When it comes to creating momentum, one of the most important things you can do, before you work towards anything, is to make sure you're headed in the right direction. We can easily create momentum in our lives in the wrong direction all day long. I've done it in so many different ways with my health, friends and more. To avoid this, think of one area in your life you want to make a change in. Just one, you don't want to overwhelm yourself, and that's your starting point. For me, it's health.
What is the change you want to make to become a better version of yourself?
Next, you need to think of people that inspire you. Think of people who already have this thing that you want and work backward from there. What does this person do every single day? For example, I turn 40 in February and one of my goals is to become my fittest self. I want to be my fittest self physically, emotionally and spiritually, not necessarily at my lowest body fat percentage. I want to look in the mirror and be proud of how far I've come and the woman I've created.
This requires me to think, "what does this Ashley look like? What is she wearing, how does she hold herself?" I had to get really clear on what I wanted and then work backward from that vision. So ask yourself the same thing. What does this version of myself do every single day to get to that place I'm seeking?
Start moving in the right direction by taking action.
Figuring out what you want, envisioning your success, that is the easy part. Making it happen is the hard part. The key to creating momentum is taking action. You have to move your energy in the direction of what you want in your life.
Often times when we find ourselves not doing the things we know we need to do to make that change in our lives, it's because of fear. We're always going to have fear, unfortunately. And when faced with it, we have two choices: run from it or propel yourself fiercely forward into it. That's how I created the mantra Fierce Forward. A while back, I decided to face my fears and find a way. Because on the other side of fear is when you become your best self.
So when you feel out of control with fear, take action. Action, deciding what to do, is the one thing you can control. Focus on the single step in front of you. Remember, what does that girl you want to be, do every day? Do that! And from there, just keep stepping forward.
Show up every day & keep moving forward.
Now that you've worked on building momentum in your life, how do you keep it going? Intentional discipline. That means showing up, continuing to take action and putting in the work every single day. It's important to step into that person you aspire to become and start acting like her. Not tomorrow, not next month, now! Embody her.
Learn to fall in love with the process of becoming. Too many people focus on the end result instead of the journey. Doing so can cause you to lose your way. Instead, focus on the journey and the steps you need to take to reach your end result. You will not only make it there faster, but you'll enjoy it more. I promise!
All in all, once you know where you're, just keep moving in the right direction, facing your fears, taking action, and propelling yourself fiercely forward to what you want in life. You got this girl!
